New US uranium mining projects

(April 26, 1996) (451.4460) WISE-Uranium Project - The recent rise of the price of uranium to US$15.75 per lb U3O8 appears to have spurred the opening of a number of new uranium mining projects and the reactivation of projects held on standby: - Uranium Resources Inc. has announced that it will start up its in situ leaching facilities at Kingsville Dome (Texas) in April 1996, and at Churchrock and Crownpoint (New Mexico) in 1997. [Fresh Fuel, 4 March 1996] - Plateau Resources plans to have its Shootaring Canyon (Utah) uranium mill, which has been 14 years on standby, back in operation by the fourth quarter of 1996. [UI News Briefing 96/10] - NZU Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of New Mexico and Arizona Land Co., has announced the development of its Hosta Butte (New Mexico) uranium deposit for in situ leach mining.
